St. Jude Section on Bioethics

Patients, families, medical teams, and researchers at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital all work together toward a common mission to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. While pursuing this shared goal, differing values may create uncertainty or disagreement about the best path forward.

The Section on Bioethics can offer guidance on difficult decisions that may come up during a patient’s care and treatment, as well as ethical questions related to St. Jude policies or research.

We help the patient, family members, and medical team work through tough decisions together, such as:

  • When you are unsure about the right course of care
  • When you, your child, or medical team can’t agree on a medical decision
  • When you are feeling significant distress about a medical decision
  • When you need help deciding about allowing your child to participate in research

The Section on Bioethics exists to offer ethics support to the entire St. Jude Community as well as advance scholarship and increase awareness of pressing issues in pediatric bioethics nationally. Learn more about the resources we offer and our work.
